I've just finished recovering a website after removing a trojan infected javascript file and then fighting for a couple of hours to stay a step ahead of someone trying to delete all the files on the server.

If any of you haven't done so already, change to using strong passwords and change them now. A different password for every site you use is sensible, but I'll admit it's a pain to manage.

Pick a theme and use a simple cypher on top so you're not using plain English.

If you're not sure what I mean, here's a quickie tutorial...

1. Pick a theme

Erm... Winnie the Pooh characters?? Whatever. Something so you know the basis without having to think too hard.

2. A simple cypher

L33t a few letters to a simple scheme: a=4, e=3, i=1, o=0

Doesn't have to be 'real' l33t, it doesn't matter so long as you remember it...

3. Crank it up a notch

Hit shift for alternate letters...

A simple password of : and piglet too

Which scores 22% and rates 'Weak' here

Turns into : 4Nd p!gL3T T0)

Which scores 100% and rates "Very Strong"

It's easy, it's cheap and it could save you some time and trouble.
